Die Tonight Show ist die erste und erfolgreichste Late-Night-Show der Welt und zugleich die am längsten existierende Unterhaltungssendung des US-Fernsehens. Sie hatte am 27. September 1954 unter dem Namen Tonight Premiere. Vorläufer war eine regionale Show aus New York. Erster Moderator war der Komiker und Musiker Steve Allen. Die Sendung wechselte bis 1962 mehrfach den Gastgeber und ihren Namen. Dann übernahm Johnny Carson und moderierte 30 Jahre lang die Show. Erst seitdem trägt sie den Namen „The Tonight Show“. Trotzdem zählt man auch die Zeit davor zur Tonight Show. J
